“For once you have tasted flight you will

walk the earth with your eyes turned

skywards, for there you have been and

there you will long to return.”  Leonardo

Da Vinci

I have dreamt of flying for as long as I can remember. I started out flying in what are called “microlights” which are oversized hang glider wings attached to a two seat motorised pod slung underneath. The next logical step was the move to “ultralights” which look more like conventional airplanes and have 3 axes of control. I built our second aircraft, a Skyranger Nynja, from a kit. In October 2014, we went with a group on a flying holiday which introduced us to flying touring. As a result of that trip, we upgraded to a “Light Sport Aircraft” which is an ultralight with a heavier Maximum Take Off Weight (MTOW). This allows the aircraft to carry more fuel and payload. Our Aeropilot Legend also flies 20-25 knots faster than the Nynja would and it has some other creature comforts that the Nynja didn’t have, such as cabin heating.

US Trip.

We’ve recently returned from a month log trip to the USA. The focus of the trip was EAA Airventure in Oshkosh Wisconsin, but there were many other exciting places we visited. While we were at Oshkosh, we were able to catch up with the American Legend dealer, Deon Lombard from California. On the way to Oshkosh, we visited the USAF National Museum in Dayton Ohio. The scale of the museum has to be experienced, words don’t adequately describe it. Also while we were there we visited Cathedral Cavern, and The US Rocket and Space Center, both near Huntsville Alabama. We have posted the videos of the trip on our YouTube channel. More videos of the trip will be posted as I finish editing them.
